The Acta Group (Acta®) affiliate Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®) and Bloomberg BNA were pleased to present “TSCA Confidential Business Information and Generic Naming: Analyzing the New Rules,” the fourth webinar in the 2018 Chemical Policy Summit Series. Protecting confidential business information (CBI), including chemical identity, has never been easy but remains an essential component of a successful commercial chemical strategy.  New Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Section 14 is much more prescriptive about what can and cannot be protected and what submitters must do to substantiate CBI to withstand scrutiny.  This complimentary, hour-long webinar focused on what’s new, what’s not, and how best strategically to create generic names to protect specific chemical substance identity. Tracy C. WEBINAR - - Chemical Regulation in the Middle East, September 12, 2018 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. EDT

Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®) and The Acta Group (Acta®) were pleased to present “Chemical Regulation in the Middle East.” This complimentary webinar was presented in conjunction with the recently released book “Chemical Regulation in the Middle East,” written by Michael S. Wenk, M.S., Senior Regulatory Consultant with B&C and Acta. Mr. Wenk presented an overview of chemical substance regulation in the Middle East with a focus on key chemical control programs in Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Oman, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.

ELI Summer School Series 2018: Law & Policy of Products Regulation, July 24, 2018, Washington, D.C. and via Webinar

The life cycle of industrial, agricultural, and antimicrobial chemical products, especially those embedded in consumer products, has gained increasing public attention. Regulators are beginning to look at the entire product life cycle, including after the discard of a product at the end of its useful life, not just toxicity data. Lynn L. Bergeson, President, The Acta Group (Acta®), presented Law & Policy of Products Regulation, examining the regulation of chemicals that are used in industrial and consumer products, as well as pesticides, and describing the new governance and stewardship initiatives being considered globally by a wide variety of stakeholders to diminish the potential for adverse effects from chemicals. A complimentary recording of this presentation is available on ELI's website.

Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference, June 18-20, 2018, Portland, Oregon

The 22nd Annual Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference (GC&E), hosted by the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Green Chemistry Institute®, provided an opportunity for a diverse network of over 500 academic, industrial, and government stakeholders to network and learn about the newest ideas in sustainable approaches to chemistry, chemicals, processes, and products. This year’s conference highlighted the theme, “Product innovation using greener chemistries.”  Richard E. NanoBCA 2018 Annual Conference, June 14, 2018, Washington D.C.

The 17th Annual Conference of the NanoBusiness Commercialization Association (NanoBCA) welcomed leading experts from private industry who were commercializing nanomaterials, representatives from government agencies, and public policy leaders. Environmental Regulation 2018: Hot Topics, Regulatory Developments, and Practical Guidance for Corporate Compliance, June 8, 2018, New York, New York and Via Webinar

Environmental Regulation 2018: Hot Topics, Regulatory Developments, and Practical Guidance for Corporate Compliance, hosted by the Practicing Law Institute (PLI), provided a comprehensive overview of recent developments in environmental regulation – and de-regulation – affecting compliance obligations for a range of businesses and organizations.  Among other topics, this program covered the impact of recent court decisions, new regulations, and enforcement initiatives on regulated entities, with an emphasis on providing practical suggestions for management of environmental risks and compliance obligations. Lynn L. The TSCA Reform and Regulation webinar, hosted by the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP) Cyber Chapter and presented by Lynn L. Bergeson, President, The Acta Group (Acta®), summarized key changes in the law and review major TSCA implementation measures.  Special emphasis focused on new chemicals regulation and the challenges chemical manufacturers and importers are experiencing as a consequence of the new law.

WEBINAR - - FIFRA Hot Topics, April 10, 2018, 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. EDT

Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. (B&C®) and Bloomberg BNA were pleased to present “FIFRA Hot Topics,” the second webinar in the 2018 Chemical Policy Summit Series. This complimentary, hour-long webinar featured Rick P. Keigwin, Jr., Director, Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP), Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Daniella Taveau, former International Trade Negotiator for EPA and now Regulatory and Global Trade Strategist, King & Spalding, and William L. Jordan, former senior toxics lawyer with EPA’s OPP and Office of General Counsel.  This timely and fascinating conversation was augmented by B&C Senior Government Affairs Consultant, James V. Aidala, and moderated by Lisa M. Campbell, Partner, B&C. 

Topics covered included OPP priorities and current FIFRA implementation issues,  ESA opportunities and challenges, the EPA OPP program budget and industry fee contributions (e.g., the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA)), registration review actions on glyphosate, neonicotinoid insecticides, pollinator protection, trade barriers, other globalization challenges, and more.

CPDA 2018 Regulatory Policy Conference, March 13, 2018, Crystal City, Virginia

CPDA 2018 Regulatory Policy Conference provided Council of Producers & Distributors of Agrotechnology (CPDA) members and non-members alike a valuable opportunity to gather to discuss key developments and regulatory challenges, unique to the agrotechnology industry, that must be addressed for companies to stay competitive and operate successfully in the global marketplace. Participants received insights from regulatory agency officials on addressing the requirements specific to manufacturers, formulators, distributors, and suppliers of adjuvants and inert ingredients. Sheryl Lindros Dolan, Senior Regulatory Specialist at The Acta Group (Acta®), presented “2018 FIFRA Regulatory Outlook.”

Toxic Torts and Environmental Law, March 1-2, 2018, Nashville, Tennessee

DRI’s Toxic Torts and Environmental Law Committee, in conjunction with the American Chemistry Council (ACC), presented “Toxic Torts and Environmental Law: Building a Modern Toolkit to Face Emerging Issues.” This two day conference featured the latest science and regulatory developments for both litigators and counselors to learn new hits and old standards. Lynn L. Bergeson, President of The Acta Group (Acta®), and James J. Jones, Executive Vice President at the Consumer Specialty Products Association, presented “New TSCA: Repercussions in Commercial Transactions, Supply Chain Relationships, and Toxic Tort and Product Liability Law.”

Advanced Bioeconomy Leadership Conference on Development & Deployment, February 28 - March 2, 2018, Washington, D.C.

ABLC 2018 was a connected series of five conferences on the most important issues in the bioeconomy. These conferences provided updates from key government agencies, an opening session with the heads of top trade organizations, and information on policy, finance, partnerships, world class R&D, and effective scale-up.
