Registration, Evaluation, and Authorization of Chemicals

REACH, which stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals, is the European Union’s (EU) chemical management regulation. Adopted in December 2006, the regulation entered into force on June 1, 2007, although most of its key provisions will not apply until June 1, 2008, when the European Chemicals Agency becomes operational.

In total, REACH encompasses over 140 different articles, 17 distinct annexes, almost 300 pages of text, and hundreds of pages of guidance, with the latter figure expected to grow considerably as still more guidance is issued.

• Compiling partial or full dossiers in IUCLID 5 format;
• Assisting with classification and labelling;
• Preparing or updating Safety Data Sheets;
• Performing chemical safety assessments and preparing Chemical Safety Reports;
• Providing assistance and advice during the evaluation, authorization, and restriction processes under REACH; and
• Providing regular updates on the latest REACH developments, including new guidance and tools, as well as on issues such as the requirement to register certain monomers in imported polymers and confidential business information issues.
