On Capitol Hill, In The Press, And At Key Events, Momentum And Membership Builds For The Biobased And Renewable Products Advocacy Group (BRAG™)

The ACTA Group

Far from slowing down as the dog days of summer approach, BRAG and its growing membership have been highly visible and actively working to smooth the regulatory path for, and advance the commercialization of, biobased chemicals. And the pace is only going to pick-up as the temperature rises. BRAG is:

  • Shaping Biobased Policy
    • BRAG is engaged with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) staff concerning BRAG’s petition for reduced reporting requirements for certain biobased chemical substances under the Chemical Data Reporting rule. The successful outcome of this petition process will translate into substantially reduced reporting time, effort, and resources for those biobased chemical manufacturers.

  • Contributing Scholarship and Analysis in the Biobased Press
  • Equipping Biobased Companies for Regulatory Success
    • On June 19, 2014, BRAG will present a workshop at the American Chemical Society’s Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference in North Bethesda, MD, titled “Regulatory Landscape & Implications for Innovation,” with guests Sookie Hong from 3E, Caroline Cox from the Center for Environmental Health, Emily Tipaldo from the American Chemistry Council, and Andy Shafer from Elevance Renewable Sciences, Inc., a BRAG member-company whose latest product innovation was featured recently in Biofuels Digest: “Elevance Clean 1200 degreaser launches: renewables titan packs a wallop into all that sustainability.”

    • On August 5-7, 2014, BRAG will co-host with EPA and the George Washington University a hands-on Sustainable Futures Workshop in Washington, D.C., training attendees on tools, methods, and models EPA uses to assess the hazard and potential exposure of chemicals. Sustainable Futures graduates can be eligible to receive reduced regulatory review time for dual Premanufacture Notification (PMN)/Test Market Exemption Application (TMEA) submissions. SPACE IS EXTREMELY LIMITED so companies interested in participating should register now by sending an e-mail with the subject line “Sustainable Futures Workshop Registration” to Kathleen Roberts . BRAG’s full announcement on the workshop is available online.

To join BRAG in bringing biobased industry stakeholders and regulators together to collaborate on and put into practice new policy paradigms to repurpose the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and other regulatory frameworks to apply to newer chemical platforms, contact Kathleen M. Roberts or visit www.braginfo.org.
