(B&C®) professionals deconstructing the jurisdictional boundaries distinguishing pesticides, biopesticides, plant regulators, biostimulants, and related technologies. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, which significantly amended the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), just over one year after it was signed into law. Speakers discussed key components of the bipartisan legislation and provided an overview of the current state of implementation. Afternoon breakout sessions invited all participants to discuss ongoing law and policy issues. Visit the ELI event website for more details on the current program. Since last June a logjam of new chemicals under review at EPA unable to enter commerce tops 700. That contrasts with the agency’s track record of reviewing about 1,000 new chemicals annually. Former EPA officials have analyzed the types of decisions the agency is considering making for these new chemicals, the types of toxicity data being requested, and the marked change that represents from past practice. The panel discussed those findings and the conundrums facing small and large chemical manufacturers as well as their customers. They offered suggestions for companies, trade associations and the EPA. The goal: ensure new chemicals are responsibly reviewed, but continue bringing innovative chemicals to market.

On November 28th, the Hazardous Waste Export-Import Rule was published in the Federal Register. The rule went into effect on December 31, 2016. The rule impacts thousands of entities that export and/or import shipments of hazardous wastes. Acta President Lynn L. Bergeson and Senior Regulatory Specialist Christopher R.
