Lynn L. Bergeson Named Vice Chairman of Newly Formed IBA Agriculture Law Committee

Bergeson has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Agriculture Law Committee (ALC) at the International Bar Association (IBA). Ms. Bergeson, Managing Partner of B&C and President of Acta, will serve a two-year term.
The IBA is the world’s leading organization of international legal practitioners, bar associations, and law societies, promoting an exchange of information among legal associations worldwide. The Agricultural Law Section joins a wide range of legal practice division sections at the IBA and is open to those interested in any part of the ever-evolving area of agricultural law. This section covers a comprehensive and dynamic legal practice area, in particular relating to (i) agriculture land usage, ownership, and farmers’ rights; (ii) seed law, plant variety law, and biotechnology/genetically modified organism (GMO) law; and (iii) food trade, food safety, and food liability.
Lynn L. Bergeson has been deeply engaged in agricultural law and policy matters for decades, assisting clients in resolving and advocating on often precedent-setting, novel, and complex pesticide and agricultural regulatory issues, including those involving nanotechnology, synthetic biology, and other emerging transformative technologies. In addition to her Vice Chairmanship of the IBA’s ALC, she has served as Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources, is on the boards of directors of the Environmental Law Institute, the NanoBusiness Commercialization Association, and the Product Stewardship Society, among other business and law organizations, and lectures and writes frequently on legal, regulatory, and science policy issues affecting agriculture. Recent articles and presentations include “Enlisting Modern Technologies to Ensure a Safe Food Supply,” Natural Resources & Environment, Volume 31, Issue 3, Winter 2017; and “Modern Agriculture and Technology,” presented at the IBA 4th Mediterranean Conference, June, 2016.
